Mary’s Place of Wisdom respects your right to online privacy and is committed to protecting the privacy of an individual’s personal information. We have created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate this commitment to you, our client through transparent, easy-to-understand information regarding our data practices.
The Privacy Act 1988 defines personal information as meaning information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable: whether the information or opinion is true or not; and whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not.
Collection of Data
- The kind of personal information that we collect from you will depend on how you use the website.
- Our site uses a contact form in which you give us contact information (such as your name, address, phone number, IP address and email address) so you can make initial contact request information, and request support help.
- We may collect personal information from you whenever you input such information on the website, social media or chat functions.
- We may also collect cookies from your computer which tells us when you use the website and to help customise your website experience. As a rule, however, it is not possible to identify you personally for our use of cookies.

- By using our website you consent to the collection and storage of your personal information to be used for providing services to you and alerting you of new services offered, from which you may withdraw consent to direct marketing.
- Information may also be collected from correspondence, phone calls, text messages, and e-mails, intake interviews and clinical sessions.
- Further information gathered may include your date of birth, gender, advocate or emergency contact’s contact details, health information, sensitive information as well as your consent to contact.
Storage of Information
- We aim to protect the privacy of your personal information and maintain the confidentiality of personal information through appropriate storage and security.
- When using online platforms for counselling sessions we cannot categorically assure 100% confidentiality, but will endeavour to do all in our power to do so. It will also be the client’s responsibility to ensure their own space is free from others being able to listen to or view sessions. Sessions will never be recorded.
- We will never share your information without your permission.
- An exception to this is when we are required to by law through court orders, subpoenas and mandatory reporting processes. Also, however if we believe on reasonable grounds that the disclosure is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to your life, health or safety or a serious threat to public health or public safety.
- In the case of an emergency we need to contact a person nominated by you as your advocate (e.g. parent, child or sibling, spouse, a relative, a member of your household, a guardian, an enduring power of attorney).
Right to access your personal information
- Under the Privacy Act, you have a right to access your personal information that is collected and held by us. If at any time you would like to access or change the personal information that we hold about you, or you would like more information on our approach to privacy, please contact us.
- If you have a complaint, please contact us so we may endeavour to rectify the situation.
